5 Things to Do in San Francisco for New Year’s Eve 2023

San Francisco is a city known for its vibrant culture, diverse neighborhoods, and beautiful surroundings, and New Year’s Eve is always a particularly special time to take advantage of all our hometown has to offer.

Whether you’re a local looking for fun ways to ring in the new year, or a visitor planning a trip to The Bay Area just for the occasion, there are plenty of exciting things to do on New Year’s Eve in San Francisco. Here are five of our favorite options for 2023:

1. Attend the San Francisco New Year’s Eve Waterfront Fireworks Show

One of the most popular ways to celebrate New Year’s Eve in San Francisco is by attending the annual fireworks show at the waterfront. The show kicks off at 11:59 pm and lasts for about 15 to 20 minutes, featuring a spectacular display of fireworks over the San Francisco Bay. A truly outstanding way to kick off 2023 with a bang, and if you let us drive you won’t even have to worry about traffic or parking logistics as you soak up the full experience.

2. Party at a New Year’s Eve gala

If you’re in the mood to get dressed up and hit the town, consider attending one of the many New Year’s Eve galas that take place in San Francisco every year. From elegant balls to rooftop parties to all-out extravaganza’s like San Francisco’s Annual Black and White NYE Ball, there’s definitely an event for every taste and budget (and you know exactly who you can call for your luxury ride around town!)

3. See a music performance or live show

San Francisco is home to a thriving music scene, and there are always plenty of concerts and performances to enjoy on New Year’s Eve. From big-name acts at major venues like the Bill Graham Civic Auditorium and The Masonic to intimate shows at local clubs and bars like one of our favorite Mission District music destinations The Chapel (created as a West Coast home for our friends over at Preservation Hall in New Orleans!) Suffice to say, there’s something for every music lover on New Year’s Eve in San Francisco.

4. Take a New Year’s Eve cruise

For a truly memorable New Year’s Eve experience, consider taking a cruise around the San Francisco Bay. Many companies offer special New Year’s Eve cruises that last about 4 hours and include dinner, dancing, and of course, stunning views of the city. This year Hornblower San Francisco’s NYE Premier Dinner Cruise features a four-course plated dinner with entrees, salads, and desserts, top shelf open bar and bottomless Champagne (with certain packages), and music entertainment all night as you watch the fireworks show from one of the best locations in the Bay.

5. Watch the New Year’s Eve ball drop in Times Square

If you can’t make it to New York City for the famous New Year’s Eve ball drop, you can still catch all the action at one of the many bars and restaurants in San Francisco that live-stream the event.

No matter how you choose to spend your New Year’s Eve 2023 in San Francisco, you’re sure to have a memorable and festive celebration.

Wishing you a very Happy New Year from all of us at Urban Worldwide!
